KURAMA COUPLE

Wood | h 55 + 58 cm | 21,6 + 22,8 in. | 20th century

description

The Kurama or Akurmi as they call themselves live in Lere and Ikara LGA’s in Kaduna state and in Tudun Wada LGA in Kano state. They settled around the Kudaru Hills 600-700 years ago led by Bugwama Kurderu (King Kurderu). The hill was named after their king and spiritual leader.

A beautiful couple with big bellies that probably indicate that these statues were used for harvest festivals.
