description

Sukur is a tribe in Nigeria that lives near an Unesco world heritage site. Unfortunately practically unreachable these days because of the political situation. Back in 2010 a visit was still very possible. An impressive climb in a fantastic landscape to find some beautiful objects. Some photo’s of our visit are attached. This is what Kasuwa’s mission is all about.
The Sukur, Gemasakun or Sakul live in Madagali LGA on the Mandara mountains in Adamawa state and some in Gwoza LGA in Borno state.
The Sukur art is very recognizable with their elongated heads. You find these features in wooden and bronze objects.
The copper alloy pot is tested to be 250 years old.
